Lauraine wrote that one and loved it and knew immediately that she wanted to write something for adults on the mountain, too. The horse became the secondary character in Tragedy on the Toutle. She had a horse named Cimarron who lived in her backyard. Immediately, Lauraine saw a story for kids in that. ![]() During that season, she wrote a little bit of everything. They met at the conference, and then met once a week to critique for the next five years.īecause of that group, Lauraine had to write something every week. One of the best things about the conference was that Lauraine and two others formed a writing critique group. ![]() She had no idea all the different kinds of things there were to write. Initially, Lauraine wasn’t going to go, but when her mother offered to pay Lauraine’s way, she went. ![]() She got a mailing that Lauraine never heard of. Her kids were teenagers when her mother heard about a writing conference in Portland OR. ![]()
